About the Artist David Kerr was born and brought up in the Tyne Valley. For as long as he can remember he has had a fascination with buses and as a young lad, nothing made him happier than to be taken on a bus journey
Indoors, he spent many hours drawing - a talent which was later encouraged and developed at Grammar School. His first career , however, was in banking where he spent some 33 years - nineteen as a Bank Manager. In 1993, the opportunity came for early retirement and he resolved to take up his two childhood hobbies . He had trained and obtained his PCV licence in 1988 so took up bus driving and became employed driving along the Tyne Valley. Here, he could appreciate the varied landscape in all sorts of weather conditions. This lead him to revive his skill from schooldays and he launched into watercolour painting. David is now retired, and is able to spend a lot more time with his paintings and cards. He is now a committee member of the Coquetdale Arts Centre. His website was launched in 2004, by which time a good selection of paintings had been created. In the summer of 2007, he took the opportunity to have some of his watercolours featured on Bone China Mugs and Ceramic Coasters. You can see the results of this by selecting "China & Ceramics" from the options on the left. Early interest has been encouraging and his paintings have been acclaimed by artists around the globe. His work is in demand here in the North East as well as in other parts of the UK - abroad, he has paintings in the USA and Canada and his china and ceramics quickly found favour in the USA , Ireland, South Africa, Australia and even as far away as the Falkland Islands. David's cards and miniature prints are also proving very popular. Exhibitions: April/May 2006, North Shields. March 2007, Cullercoats. June 2008, Whitley Bay.
